Dear Ottawa residents:
One of the best things about my job as Mayor is that I get to see the great work being done in the community by so many terrific organizations. Unfortunately, I also get to witness some alarming trends, including the rising number of women and children who are fleeing domestic violence.
That's why this year, I've decided to raise funds for Harmony House by running the Ottawa Marathon next Sunday, May 25.
Harmony House is Ottawa's only second-stage shelter for women and children escaping abuse. The team has been doing great work in our community for nearly 40 years. They have launched a campaign called Out of the Shadows, Into the Sun, to raise funds for trauma-informed summer camps and after-school programs for children recovering from the effects of violence. These programs help young survivors rediscover joy, build confidence, and begin to heal in a safe, nurturing environment.
There is nothing more important than children growing up in a safe environment, free from the trauma associated with domestic violence. That's why I'm running the marathon: to help Harmony House with this important campaign.
Sometimes people ask me how I'm able to train for a marathon while juggling the demands of my job. When I have an opportunity to support an organization like Harmony House, it inspires me to train harder so I can make a difference in the lives of vulnerable families.
I hope you’ll join me in supporting the children and women at Harmony House. To donate toward my run and help make a difference, please click here.
Thank you for your generosity and kindness.
