We unveiled the Bytown Famine Monument—bronze shoes that tell the story of Irish families who arrived in Bytown with little, but helped build the city we know today. Their legacy lives on in landmarks like the Rideau Canal and in the strength of our community. Thank you to Ambassador John Concannon, Councillor Theresa Kavanagh, the Bytown Famine Monument Committee, Councillors Riley Brockington, Stéphanie Plante, Rawlson King, Laura Dudas, Marty Carr, Tim Tierney, MPs Mona Fortier and James Maloney and Ottawa’s Irish community for making this moment possible.
